The rapid expansion of digital banking has significantly transformed financial service delivery in recent years. However, many banking applications are not adequately designed according to the cognitive, perceptual, and motor characteristics of older adults, limiting their accessibility and effective use of digital financial services. Evidence from the present study suggests that the primary challenge is not merely older adults’ unfamiliarity with technology, but rather the incompatibility of existing user interfaces with their actual needs and capabilities. Complex interaction pathways, high cognitive workload, insufficient visual clarity, and increased risk of user error create substantial barriers for elderly users. This policy brief is based on a user-centered design study that employed semi-structured interviews, usability evaluation, task analysis, eye-tracking techniques, and mental workload assessment. Findings demonstrated that the redesigned banking application significantly improved usability, efficiency, effectiveness, user satisfaction, and visual attention performance compared with the original version. These results indicate that age-friendly interface design should be considered a professional, social, and policy necessity within digital banking systems. Accordingly, the development of national accessibility standards, mandatory usability testing with older adults, simplified banking application interfaces, and continuous monitoring of elderly users’ experiences are recommended as key policy actions to promote inclusive digital banking services.
