Abstract
Introduction: Emotional intelligence is a key factor in maintaining mental health, and nurses are particularly vulnerable to occupational burnout due to job-related stress. This study aimed to investigate the effect of emotional intelligence training on job burnout and quality of working life among nurses working in a psychiatric hospital in Kashan.
Methods: This educational intervention study included 30 nurses who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in nine 90-minute sessions of emotional intelligence training. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted using the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Data was analyzed using paired samples T-tests with SPSS version 20.
Results: The intervention group demonstrated statistically significant improvements in the "emotional exhaustion" dimension of job burnout, as well as in the "work and personal life," "work context," and "global work environment" dimensions of quality of work life following the intervention (P < 0.05). Conversely, no significant changes were observed in other dimensions of job burnout and quality of work life post-intervention (P > 0.05).
Conclusion: The findings indicate that emotional intelligence training effectively reduces emotional exhaustion and improves key dimensions of quality of work life, underscoring the value of such targeted interventions in mitigating specific aspects of job burnout and increasing job performance of nurses.
